What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Coordinator - Recreation position at City of Paducah?
Organize, plan, and implement Paducah Parks & Recreation summer camp, after-school program, and special event programs under the supervision of the Recreation Specialist. Includes, but is not limited to planning, scheduling, and implementing daily curriculum, games and activities, sports, arts and crafts, fun days, field trips, and special events for the various camp programs offered. The coordinator will assist in staffing training and evaluating staff as needed.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES:
- Work with Recreation Specialist organizing, planning, and implementing diversified day-to-day activities, schedules, and curriculum (Activities include: sports, games, arts and crafts, songs, drama, storytelling, trips, and tours, etc.).
- Work with the Recreation Specialist on planning, organizing, and implementing training for camp staff.
- Supervise and manage staff, and coordinate and lead weekly staff meetings.
- Coordinate, implement, and attend planned field trips and/or visits to the Noble Park Pool.
- Organize materials needed for day-to-day activities and curriculum.
- Organize and implement special “fun days”, including working with the community/local businesses to bring inspeakers for demonstrations, equipment, games, music, and coordinating field trips.
- Manage and delegate assignments and job duties to assigned staff members.
- Communicate with parents about their child’s needs and achievements.
- Maintain a good relationship with children and their parents.
- Organize and implement a drop-off and pick-up system, monitoring and providing a safe environment for all childrenand their parents in the program.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance and sign-in/out documentation, as well as incident report forms anddisciplinary action forms.
- Assists with monitoring and directing camp programs.
- Assists with light maintenance and custodial work required to support recreation programs.
- Has the ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates, subordinates, and the public.
- MUST be able to swim and participate in activities at the Noble Park Pool.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have High School Diploma, with experience in programming and organizing activities for children. Have a working knowledge of positive public relations. Be able to enforce rules and regulations and have good, sound judgment. Some College and/or teaching experience is preferred. Experience working with children between 5 and 12 years old is preferred. Experience in working with summer camp or day camp programs is a plus. A valid Driver’s License is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge and/or experience in teaching children, and maintaining a consistent and safe environment that is conducive to enhance learning. Must be able to swim and participate in swimming activities at the Noble Park Pool. Must be prompt and reliable. Must be flexible, organized, and able to adapt when circumstances warrant. Must be willing and able to participate in planned children’s activities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to maintain a high energy and activity level, in outdoor summer temperatures. Moderate lifting and moving of materials and equipment will be required.
