JOB SUMMARY
The Library’s Circulation Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of clerical duties while offering proficient support functions mandatory for the daily operation of the library’s circulation desk. This position has a high degree of public contact and is primarily responsible for checking material in and out. The Circulation Assistant may also assist in the training of the Part Time Circulation Assistant and Library Aide positions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provides excellent customer service to ensure the highest quality of service as established by the City of Page.
- Performs circulation duties, responds to public and staff inquires and resolves problems.
- Assists patrons with the use of library software and equipment, including accessing library resources on patrons’ personal devices.
- Handles circulation of Library materials and maintains circulation control.
- Performs basic troubleshooting on computer issues with patrons.
- Creates weekly overdue notices and follow-up letters.
- Insures proper daily operation of public area of Library during business hours.
- Operates all office equipment such as typewriter, computer, and microfiche reader, fax machine and copier.
- Collects fines and fees.
- Performs basic equipment troubleshooting and maintenance. Follows through with work orders, following manager approval, to arrange for servicing of library equipment and / or facilities.
- Assists in planning, implementing, and evaluation of circulation services. Participates in committees that recommend for enhancing patron services to ensure the efficient, effective and economical delivery of services.
- Processes interlibrary loan request by locating the material and preparing the necessary paperwork.
- Develops and maintains all routines necessary to ensure the effective operation of the library consistent with the Page Public Libraries policy and procedures. Provides suggestions for improvements to circulation policies and procedures.
- Enforces Page Public Library’s policies and procedures to the public. Responds to inquiries and resolves circulation problems and concerns from staff and public. Is required to inform the Library Manager of problems and incidents that occur which need the Library Manager’s attention.
- Provides quality service through leadership, guidance, and communication to and with library staff to meet community needs.
- Assists with collection maintenance.
- Contributes to the library’s long- and short-range plans concerning the use of new trends and technologies and makes recommendations, as applicable.
- Creates displays / materials to enhance the library collection and materials to promote library services.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
