SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Receives and reviews purchase orders or requisitions as submitted by department personnel ensuring inclusion of correct information, coding, account numbers, etc., and determining appropriateness of requests; retrieves items from Department stocks or orders requested goods from approved vendor lists, as appropriate; may travel to vendor sites to purchase and retrieve various items.
Tracks backordered parts and supplies on a continuous basis, providing status reports to supervisors.
Receives, unpacks, checks and records incoming goods, notifying vendors and returning improper or damaged goods, as necessary; stores goods in proper storage areas according to established systems; issues goods according to purchase orders and requisitions, and withdraws orders from stock as requested, checking and recording proper identifying data such as commodity size, lots, codes, etc.
Researches availability and price trends of various equipment, supplies, materials and services routinely purchased by the Department, contacting vendors, obtaining information and comparing data to determine rates and services that best benefit the Department.
Establishes and maintains inventory files of fixed assets, supplies and materials, and distribution or assignment of such items to personnel; maintains lists of approved vendors, services, prices, etc.; prepares stock and inventory reports.
Performs physical inventory of fixed assets and supplies, tagging and/or engraving items with identifying codes; maintains stock and inventory control records, ensuring proper recording of equipment, supplies and materials; maintains adequate inventory of consumable supplies, materials, state forms, etc., and distributes as necessary.
Processes Department invoices.
Manages recycling and excess scrap material and is responsible for hazardous materials storage, labeling, cataloging, handling, training of shop personnel and disposal through licensed vendors. Records and maintains HAZMAT records from cradle to grave. Inspects storage containers and ensures compliance with State DEP rules on an ongoing basis.
Manage equipment and parts warranty program. Ensures that warranties are utilized and files necessary claims with manufacturers and vendors.

Dental Insurance: Dental coverage is offered in three plans that include DHMO & PPO High/Low plans.
Vision Insurance: Vision coverage includes an annual eye exam, frames and lenses or contact lenses in lieu of eyeglasses.
Life Insurance: The City of Palm Bay provides each employee with life insurance in the amount of one time their annual base salary at no cost. Additional coverage is available at the employee's cost up to the Guaranteed Issue amount of $250,000.
Dependent/Spouse Life Insurance: The City of Palm Bay provides each employee with dependent/spouse life insurance in the amount of $5,000 per dependent at no cost. Additional coverage is available at the employee's cost.
Short Term Disability: Coverage pays 66 2/3% of employee's annual base salary during a short-term disability period not to exceed 26 weeks.
Long Term Disability: Coverage pays 66 2/3% of employee's salary at time of disability after a 180 consecutive day waiting period.
Defined Contribution Retirement Plan: City contributes a base of 3%. Employees may contribute up to 6% and the City will match the employees contribution.
Holidays: 10 holidays,1 birthday holiday and 1 anniversary holiday.
Paid Leave: Accrue 96 hours of vacation per year, accrued hours increase after 5 years of service based on years of service. Accrue 96 hours of sick leave per year.
Tuition Reimbursement: Upon completion of the initial probationary period, employees are eligible for tuition and book reimbursement for college level courses for Associate's, Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. (Currently frozen due to budget)
