- Unit members shall receive a five percent (5.0%) base salary increase July 1, 2025
- Respond to fire and emergency alarms; perform all phases of fire suppression work; perform rescue, ventilation, overhaul, salvage, and clean-up activities at fire scene.
- Respond to and assist in the mitigation of hazardous material and emergency airport incidents; perform swift water and trench rescues as necessary; respond to non-emergency calls for service, as necessary.
- As assigned, write, prepare, and file reports concerning incidents, autos, light trucks, rescue and apparatus maintenance, inventory, occupancy survey, notice of violation, supply requisitions, work orders, and other fire related information.
- Assist in the performance of routine daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of the fire apparatus and equipment; maintain fire station and grounds; perform routine and minor repairs as necessary; inform station fire engineer or captain of major repair work needed; perform inspections and routine maintenance on rescue and squad apparatus.
- Assist in the performance of periodic Uniform Fire Code inspections of industrial and commercial businesses and places of assembly; assist in the enforcement of the fire prevention codes by following through and documenting violations in need of corrective action.
- Conduct and participate in training exercises; develop skills in fire suppression, medical aid, apparatus operation, physical fitness, and other related areas.
- Assist with public education; provide CPR instruction, grade school presentations and fire drills.
- Perform emergency medical services as a Paramedic
- Maintain records and logs of work completed and in-progress; prepare statistical and analytical reports as required.
- Conduct and participate in pre-fire planning activities; stay abreast of new innovations relative to fire prevention.
- Participates in testing of a variety of department equipment including protective clothing and breathing apparatus.
- Assist with fire prevention, fire inspection, and code enforcement activities.
- To perform and assist with special assignment operations and urban search and rescue operations.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Experience:
- No directly related work experience is required.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent education is required.
- Successful completion of Firefighter I Certificate or the Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) approved Firefighter 1 Academy Certificate for full-time career firefighters is required.
- Two years of full-time paid experience as a Firefighter with a municipal department may be substituted for the Firefighter I Certification or the Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) approved Firefighter I Academy Certificate is required.
- Possession of, and ability to maintain valid California Paramedic License.
- Successful completion of a valid California or out of state approved Paramedic course and successful completion of National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) testing within the past two (2) years.
- A valid out of state Paramedic License and successful completion of National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) within the past two (2) years.
Other Requirements:
- Must be an active candidate on the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Statewide Eligibility List (SEL) on February 17, 2025.
- Successful completion of valid Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) written exam passing score of 70% or higher is required.
- Possession of, or have the ability to obtain, a valid California Paramedic License at the time of the appointment is required.
- Possession of, or have the ability to obtain a valid Riverside County Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic Certification (EMT- P) within 6 weeks of appointment is required.
- Possession of, or have the ability to maintain a valid American Heart Association or Red Cross Health Care Provider Level Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification is required.
- Possession of, or have the ability to obtain a valid CAL-JAC Physical Ability Test (CPAT) prior to Chief interview is required.
- Possession of, or have the ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver license at the time of appointment with a satisfactory driving record is required. (A driving record which reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation (such as DUI) within the past 36 months would not be considered satisfactory.) Incumbents are enrolled in the California Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Pull Notice Program. The DMV Pull Notice Program provides information on the incumbents driving record and driving record status on a periodic basis to the City.
- Must live within 150 driving miles of the city limits no later than the first day of the fourteenth (14th) month of employment. (The calculation of the 150 miles shall be made by using Google Maps driving directions).
- Must be nonsmoking/tobacco free during course of employment.
- Palm Springs International Airport SIDA security badge must be obtained within the first 3 months of employment.
- Successful applicants are required to pass a background, physical, psychological and drug screen prior to hire.
- Successful completion of firefighter trimester probationary tests on a periodical basis is required.
