THE POSITION: works in the Maintenance and Facilities Department and leads, oversees, and participates in the more complex and difficult work of staff responsible for routine and general cleaning and landscape maintenance activities of City parks and facilities, including downtown and uptown areas; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility.

- Lead, plan, train, and review the work of staff responsible for routine and general cleaning and landscape maintenance.
- Plan, direct, schedule, and participate in the landscaping duties in parks and downtown and uptown grounds, including outdoor patios; mow, trim, prune, edge, rake, fertilize, water, plant, and cultivate landscaped areas as necessary.
- Train assigned employees in their areas of work including maintenance and landscaping methods, procedures, and techniques.
- Supervise the use, care, and operation of equipment and vehicles.
- Verify the work assigned to employees for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
- Inspect and monitor job sites for properly completed work; assess complex maintenance problems and coordinate the appropriate staff.
- Estimate time, materials, and equipment required for jobs assigned, requisition materials as required.
- Maintain and prepare a variety of records, logs, and reports.
- Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

- Three (3) years of increasingly responsible landscape maintenance and general cleaning experience is required.
- Previous experience working in a public sector agency (public agency includes State, County, School, or City Government, Law Enforcement, or other Public Sector Agency) is preferred.
Training:
- High School Diploma or equivalent education is required.
- Specialized training in general landscape maintenance and repairs or related fields is desired.
License or Certificates:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, within six (6) months of hire, an appropriate a valid California Class A Driver License with a satisfactory driving record (a driving record may be deemed unsatisfactory for any of the following reasons: three or more moving violations or reportable accident within the last three years; conviction of driving under the influence within the last five years) is required.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an IMSA certification for signs and markings and Work zone Safety within 6 months of the date of hire, it is required.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Qualified Applicators Certificate (QAC) within 6 months of the date of hire is required.
Other Requirements:
- Incumbents are enrolled in the California Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Pull Notice Program. The DMV Pull Notice Program provides information on the incumbents driving record and driving record status on a periodic basis to the City.
- Ability to work various shifts including nights, weekends and holidays is required.
- Must successfully complete a pre-employment background clearance, fingerprints and a physical and drug screen.

This position works in a field/construction site environment and is exposed to noise, dust, smoke, fumes, gasses, inclement weather conditions and works around heavy construction equipment and machinery. This position may work at heights, on scaffolding and ladders and may require maintaining physical condition necessary for heavy, moderate or light lifting, standing or walking for prolonged periods and operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
