Firefighter
OBJECTIVE: To perform firefighting and rescue operations at all emergency incidents and to assist in First Responder objectives. To accomplish all tasks listed in the essential duties and responsibilities section of this job description under the guidance and direction of the Fire Chief or his/her designated official. May be given responsibility for supervision of other firefighters as experience and proficiency is demonstrated and as directed by the Fire Chief for specific tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Work a 24-hour duty day that is typical to firefighter scheduling (48-hour week)
- Respond to all reported emergencies to include: fire, vehicle accidents, hazardous materials, first responder and mutual aid requests.
- Follows City safety policies and procedures
- Follows city personnel policies and procedures
- Participate in academic and practical training sessions as directed
- Inspect vehicles and related equipment and report findings to the Fire Chief
- Prepare reports as directed by the Fire Chief
- Perform department self-inspections as needed
- Perform Fire Prevention activities as directed
- Conduct fire hydrant testing and minor maintenance (lubrication & painting)
- Working knowledge of streets, hydrants, installed fire protection and suppression devices, special and/or high hazards within the City.
- Perform other related duties as directed by the fire Chief
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative to the knowledge, skill and ability required.
- Knowledge of the policies, practices and procedures of the City
- Physical condition will be applicable to the National Fire Protection Association requirements
- Ability to safely operate all tools and equipment within the department’s authority
- Ability to work harmoniously with the department volunteer firefighters
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High school graduate or certificate equivalent
- State Volunteer Standards Certificate
- State of Florida Firefighter Certificate (NOTE: The cost of attaining this certificate is the responsibility of the employee)
- State of Florida driver’s license Class “D” with an “E” endorsement is required or equivalent
- Must meet all minimum requirements established by the State Fire Marshal
