What you'll be doing:
- Performs technical work related to the development and implementation of special events and activities.
- Plans, coordinates, supervises, conducts and evaluates a wide variety of recreation programs and events.
- Works with various city departments and outside vendors to set up and facilitate a professional program or event.
- Monitors program expenses and stays within assigned program/event budget.
- Monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures.
- Develops promotional materials to advertise recreational programs, activities and special events.
- Conducts outreach to all segments of the community to identify and support the creation of innovative programs and provide opportunities to involve and integrate the residence of the community.
- Recommends modifications to recreation programs, events and activities as appropriate.
- Supervises the issuance, use, care, and maintenance of recreation supplies and equipment.
- Negotiates contracts for outside services associated with special events recreation programs, within the City’s procurement policies.
- Composes correspondence, prepares staff reports, keeps records, and makes presentations as needed.
- Develops annual sponsorship opportunities within the City’s sponsorship policy; obtains annual sponsorships for events/programs.
- Develops and maintains a working relationship with a wide variety of people, organizations, and cultures, business leaders, schools, service clubs, media, religious organizations and senior citizen groups.
- Updates website information.
- Monitors trends within Parks & Recreation field.
- Works with Parks and Recreation volunteers.
- Develops and oversees community-wide special events to include planning and implementing City special events and processing special event permits.
- Researches and prepares specifications for material and equipment purchases.
- Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
- Two (2) years of work experience in the field of Recreation.
- Must be certified in CPR, First Aid, and AED, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
- Must have a Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
- Must be certified as a Crowd Manager, or the ability to obtain within three (3) months of employment.
- Must possess FEMA 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications, or the ability to obtain within the first six (6) months of employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the techniques of planning and directing group, social, and recreational activities and their application to the community needs.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of administration, budget, staff development and personnel management.
- Knowledge of supervisory, management and leadership principles and practices.
- Skill in the use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
- Skill in using computers for data entry.
- Skill in using computers for word processing and accounting purposes.
- Ability to plan, organize and direct the activities of personnel.
- Ability to provide supervision, training, and evaluation to staff.
- Ability to assess and provide suitable programs based upon the needs of the participants.

- Ability to prepare, and present a special events budget and to monitor expenditures.
- Ability to exercise initiative, interpret and apply laws, ordinance, rules, regulations, and safety and health standards.
- Ability to utilize all media outlets to promote events and programs.
- Ability to change planned activities in a moment’s notice.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays; ability to work a varied shift based on events and programs.
- Work environment is typically performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity and responsiveness to changes that include goals, priorities, and needs of the organization and position.
- The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crouching, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

Salary : $62,566 - $81,328
