The Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with local building codes, zoning regulations, and safety standards. Responsibilities
- Conduct regular inspections of residential and commercial properties to ensure compliance with building codes and zoning laws.
- Investigate complaints regarding potential violations and take appropriate enforcement actions.
- Issue and review building permits, interpreting building codes and regulations, understand blueprints and inspecting for code compliance.
- Collect and analyze data related to construction projects, including research on relevant codes and regulations.
- Review blueprints and schematics to assess compliance with safety standards during construction.
- Prepare detailed reports documenting findings from inspections and investigations.
- Communicate effectively with property owners, contractors, and the public regarding code requirements and enforcement actions.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, violations, and correspondence.
Requirements
- Proficiency in reading blueprints and schematics related to building projects.
- Must have thorough knowledge of building inspections, plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems and federal and state building codes.
- Ability to analyze complex information and make informed decisions based on findings.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with diverse stakeholders.
- A background in construction management or related fields is preferred but not mandatory.
- A commitment to upholding community standards through diligent enforcement of codes.
