What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Inspector position at Institute for Building Technology and Safety?
Responsibilities
IBTS is currently accepting applications for Building Inspectors in the Wichita, Hutchinson, and Salina, Kansas area. The Building Inspector will be expected to conduct building code inspections of all types of buildings across multiple jurisdictions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs field inspection of structures during various stages of construction to ascertain compliance with approved plans, specifications, product manufacturers’ instructions and applicable construction codes.
- Communicates with property owners, contractors and others in the process of field inspection to schedule inspections, explain requirements, cause compliance with plans and codes and give final sign-off approval.
- Provides information to the public regarding codes relating to construction; assists architects, engineers, contractors and property owners in interpreting and meeting code requirements.
- Prepares and maintains forms, records and reports relative to inspection activities.
- May check plans of simple construction projects for compliance with applicable codes.
- May perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Five (5) years of journey level experience in the construction or building trades; or past ICC Inspection experience.
- High School diploma or its equivalent.
- Ability to apply knowledge of building and related codes to inspect and report on compliance of complex construction projects.
- ICC certification as a Commercial Inspector in at least three of the following disciplines, or ability to obtain within one year of employment: Accessibility, Building Electrical, Energy Conservation, Fire, Mechanical, Plumbing; equivalent state certifications or licenses will be considered.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
