The City of Pasadena Parks, Recreation, and Community Service Department is currently seeking a Recreation Leader-B (part-time) to plan, organize, and conduct recreational programs and activities at the Victory Park Recreation Center. In addition, the Recreation Leader-B will train, supervise and assists in special events. The number of work hours per week and work schedule varies depending on the assigned program and may include evenings and weekends.
The ideal candidate will have prior recreation experience that includes heavy public contact and extensive background in park reservations and special events. This serves as vital role in that they are the initial point of contact for patrons visiting the park and / or community center. Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Essential Functions

- Performs front desk reception duties to assist park and / or community center patrons in accessing recreation programs and services.
- Plans, organizes, and conducts a specialized recreation program and / or special activities for all age groups at a community center or at a large playground or park area.
- May be assigned as chief leader or serve as the only leader at a center, playground, park, or special activities and events involving extensive facilities, large attendance, etc.
- Instructs in various games and interprets rules of play.
- Determines community recreational needs in an assigned area.
- Determines and arranges for supplies, equipment, and facilities needed for various programs and activities.
- Supervises the issuance, use, care and maintenance of recreation supplies and equipment assigned to center, playground or activity.
- Supervises personnel at an assigned area.
- May be in charge of a community center on weekends and evenings.
- Takes necessary precautions to ensure the safety of participants and spectators, and renders first-aid as needed.
- Cooperates with staff employees in promoting the total recreation program at the location(s) where assigned.
- Maintains the center's complete and accurate records of attendance, time reports, accident reports, activities, and progress reports, and meets all deadlines.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

VACANCY INFORMATION :
There is currently one part time (20-30 hours per week) vacancy in the Victory Park Center of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. The number of work hours per week and work schedule varies depending on the assigned program and may include evenings and weekends. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill these vacancies and similar vacancies in the future.

Effective January 1, 2013, new members to CalPERS or an agency with CALPERS' reciprocity or who have more than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPER (or reciprocal) agency will be subject to the provisions of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) and will receive the 2% @ 62 benefit formula.
Employees who are current members of CalPERS or an agency with CalPERS' reciprocity, or who have less than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPERS (or reciprocal) agency and employment with the City will be enrolled in the 2.5% @ 55 benefit formula.
All employees are required to pay the full employee contribution to CalPERS.
