WORK SCHEDULE
This is a non-benefited, at-will part-time and seasonal position with working hours to be assigned at the discretion of the Community Services Department. Candidates must be able to work all assigned shifts, which may include mornings, afternoons, evening shifts, and/or occasional weekends. Employee shall work up to 20 hours per week, limited up to 130 hours per month.
THE POSITION
When assigned to a specific recreation facility, the Recreation Leader will be responsible for supporting the delivery of comprehensive recreation services under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator and in collaboration with the Senior Recreation Leader.
Responsibilities include assisting with the implementation of the City’s recreation programs, youth and adult sports services, coaching activities, and special events; assisting in organizing and setting up recreational facilities, activity areas, and associated equipment; and performing other duties as assigned. Supervision is received from the Recreation Coordinator. This classification does not exercise supervisory responsibilities but provides lead direction over volunteers and Recreation Aides.
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Instructs and coaches sports; monitors activities of participants to ensure that park rules and regulations are followed, and that equipment is used in a safe manner.
- Assists in maintaining recreational facilities by performing light custodial care.
- Performs activities involved in a community recreation program.
- Delivers a variety of parks and programs, services, and special events as directed.
- Provides support to staff and contract instructors.
- Enforces City regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Assists with setting up, taking down furniture, materials, and equipment.
- Reports safety concerns, emergencies, or accidents in accordance with established procedures.
- Administers First Aid as needed.
- Responds to inquiries about facility usage, program, activity, and event specifics.
- Operates City vehicles as required.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Experience:
One (1) year of experience, paid or volunteer, working with children or community in recreational settings.
Education:
- Current enrollment in High School; must have a work permit and or graduation from High School or GED equivalent.
- Valid First Aid/CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency or its equivalent within 90 days of employment.
Additional Requirements/Information:
- Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and proof of insurability.
- May be required to drive a city vehicle to transport equipment.
- May work weekends and holidays.
- May require bilingual skills.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid California Class C driver’s license as assigned.
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification issued by an authorized agency.
