Duties Assists the Wastewater Collection Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendents in both the Wastewater Collection and Wastewater Rehabilitation divisions in direction and coordination of activities of workers engaged in installation, maintenance, repair, expansion, and relocation of wastewater lines by performing the following duties either personally or through crew leaders or lead personnel. Responsible for taking delegated project assignments and tasks from the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents and following through until project completion. Must be able to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Assist in the interviewing process and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Responsible for overall direction and production of all crews assigned, primarily sanitary line problem identifying, and cleaning via CCTV and jet / vacuum truck operations, but on a lesser scale to also include sanitary line replacement and repair. Demonstrates continuous effort towards improvement in daily department operations, decreasing project completion time frames, streamlining work processes, and working cooperatively and in conjunction with management, subordinates, and the public to provide quality customer service. Confers with and assists upper management in coordinating projects involving department personnel as well as other personnel both within and outside the City of Pasadena. Assists upper management in evaluating new developments in materials, tools and equipment for the purpose of recommendation or denial of purchases. Inspects field projects to confirm conformance to specifications. Responsible for carrying out delegated field assignments and project tasks. Responds to emergency conditions by redirecting labor, materials and supplies as is necessary. Assists with input in preparation of budget estimates for Wastewater Collection and Sewer Rehabilitation Divisions based on anticipated needs of departments, etc. Reviews completed word orders and overtime forms daily. May compose, or assist in the composition of, letters and reports for files, various agencies, and customers. Completes any work assignments delegated by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendents.
Qualifications : High school diploma or GED. 2-3 years sewer line, pipeline or general construction supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Know all wastewater laws and requirements for wastewater systems and requirements to deal with any violations. Able to deal with the public and officials / representatives from all other agencies, including other municipalities and state and federal agencies. Must be able to do related math calculations and know formulas and conversion tables. Must have proven supervisory and management ability. Valid Texas driver's license and a good driving record.
