THE ROLE:
As the Development Services Lead, you will play a critical role in overseeing complex and highly technical current and long-range planning tasks for the Development Services team. You will provide technical and professional guidance to staff, ensure compliance with City Comprehensive Plans and Land Development Standards, and coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies. This position involves frequent interaction with City Boards and Commissions, other City departments, legal counsel, and the public.
The ideal candidate for this role will have 5 years of experience in civil engineering, project management, construction management, community development, or planning, with at least 1 year of professional oversight experience. Strong skills in urban planning and land use law are essential, along with the ability to foster a culture based on integrity and respect. You will collaborate with various departments to ensure the successful implementation of development projects. A background check and verification of degrees are required upon acceptance of a conditional offer.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.):
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Project Management, or Construction Management
- 5 years of experience in civil engineering, project management, construction management, community development, or planning
- 1 year of professional level oversight in planning or engineering
- Valid Washington Driver’s License
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification
- Medical at $153.70/month, dental at $11.59/month, and vision coverage at $6.54/month
- Basic life insurance paid for by the City and employee sponsored supplemental life insurance
- 12 days of vacation during the 1st year of employment and 12 days of sick leave which are available for use upon accrual
- 10 holidays, plus each employee receives 1 floating holiday each year
- Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS), which offers a guaranteed monthly benefit once vesting criteria has been met
- In addition to DRS, employees may also contribute to a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, that offers a pre-tax contribution of 4% from the City
- Other benefits offered: Comprehensive Employee Assistance Program, Tuition Assistance, Flexible Spending Plan, Long-Term Disability, Aflac, and Flexible Schedule (per department approval)
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment with occasional field visits in various weather conditions
