A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ACCOUNTS PAYABLE CLERK

Job Summary:

The ideal Accounts Payable Clerk is team oriented and understands big-picture impacts of their decisions and is confident in their ability to identify and correct errors and/or inefficiencies in the process. The successful candidate will possess strong written and oral communication skills and attention to detail.

Under the general supervision of the Accounts Payable Supervisor, the Accounts Payable Clerk is responsible for the following essential functions:

• Processes checks including printing checks, matching checks to invoices, stuffing and sealing envelopes, verifying mailing addresses, and posting and mailing to the appropriate vendor.
• Processes the mail by opening and sending invoices to the appropriate department for approval.
• Approves and posts departmental invoices; processes invoices; verifies coding and sends batches to be approved.
• Processes check runs.
• Assists walk-in customers; answers phone calls and replies to emails from vendors and employees.
• Reviews vendor statements, requests missing invoices from vendor, re-sends to departments for approval and processing for payment.
• Assists departments with invoice entry questions and accounts payable training

Requirements:

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
• Requires two (2) years accounts payable or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

• Valid Texas Driver's License
