The City of Pekin, Illinois seeks a Public Works Director to lead and direct in a highly responsible executive staff-level position by providing the Department of Public Works with leadership and strategic direction. The Public Works Director provides leadership to a team of 5 managers and over 50 field staff. The work is performed under the direction of the City Manager.

• $20M combined sewer outflow remediation project
• ADA Transition Plan
• $11M Court Street reconstruction
• Teamsters labor agreement negotiations
• $5M engineering for Veteran's Drive extension to I-474
• RFP for solid waste hauler
• Multi-year capital improvement plan

Responsibilities include:

• Planning, organizing, prioritizing, and providing leadership and directives regarding the broad scope of activities of the department;
• Assuring total operational effectiveness;
• Working collaboratively with public works employees, other city employees, civic leaders and other community stakeholders;
• Serving as a principal advisor to the City Manager, and the other City officials regarding public works activities;
• Interpreting and enforcing City Manager directives and administrative policies;
• Developing long-range strategic plans for department policies and programs;
• Outlining program objectives and working with appropriate staff to implement plans;
• Overseeing the preparation and implementation of plans for Public Works projects;
• Determining resource needs and financing requests;
• Overseeing department budgetary administration;
• Preparing and presenting the annual department budget;
• Implementing the City's Capital Improvement Program and Budget;
• Other duties as assigned

Salary : $108,581 - $140,517
