The Port Grant Writer and Manager is a professional level position responsible for securing and managing grant funding for port-related projects, and focusing on federal and state funding opportunities through agencies like the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), Maritime Administration (MARAD), Build America Bureau, U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and Florida Seaport Transportation Economic Development (FSTED).
The role involves researching, preparing, and managing grant applications and awards to support the Port’s infrastructure, operational needs, and strategic objectives. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders is essential to ensure alignment with grant requirements and Port goals. Under the direction of the Port Director, this individual researches and drafts competitive grant proposals aligned with the City’s strategic goals and objectives. This position exercises independent judgment within the scope of assigned duties. Work performance is evaluated based on observed and attained results.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Government, Public Administration, Economics, Business, Accounting or a related field and;
- Three (3) years of experience in grant writing, submission of grant proposals, or grant management, with a focus on federal or state grants such as those from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), Maritime Administration (MARAD), Build America Bureau, U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and Florida Seaport Transportation Economic Development (FSTED); Or
- Combination of education, training and/or work experience equal to or higher than the requirements listed above as determined by Human Resources
Necessary Special Requirements:
- Possession of an appropriate driver license for equipment operated and any license, training or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks.
- Familiarity with federal grant submission portals such as Grants.gov, SAM.gov, and specific DOT systems are highly preferred.
