LOCATION: City Hall, 419 Fulton Street, Room 307, Peoria, Illinois
HOURS: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. – Monday through Friday
The Code Enforcement Aide position is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure working for local government and provides an opportunity to improve the quality of our neighborhoods. The entry level position is ideal for a candidate looking to get exposure to local government and, more specifically, the functions of the Community Development Department. An ideal candidate would have strong customer service skills, experience working with a diverse workforce, the ability to function in a fast-paced environment and represent the City of Peoria to the public in a professional manner. The position performs inspections, investigations and resolves violations of the City environmental codes and exterior housing codes, thereby providing safe and sanitary neighborhoods for the residents of the City. The Code Enforcement Division is looking for candidates who are willing to work hard and provide excellent customer service. Experience is not a requirement to apply for the position.EMPLOYEE’S MUST RESIDE WITHIN THE CITY OF PEORIA. AN EMPLOYEE’S UNAUTHORIZED RESIDENCY OUTSIDE THE CITY OF PEORIA SHALL BE GROUNDS FOR IMMEDIATE TERMINATION.
Inspections and Compliance Enforcement:
•Assists in preparing materials and representing the City in administrative or judicial proceedings related to ordinance violations. Property Owner Support:

Knowledge of:
The general principles and practices of environmental sanitation.
The general principles and practices of inspection.
City codes concerning garbage, weeds, litter, abandoned vehicles and related laws and ordinances.
The methods and techniques of conducting community inspections for unclean and unsafe conditions.
Skill in:
Using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgement within established guidelines.
Applying logical thinking to solve problems or accomplish tasks; to understand, interpret and communicate complicated policies, procedures and protocols.
Communicating clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Mental and Physical Abilities:
Ability to interpret environmental codes and regulations to those affected by inspection work with firmness and tact.
Ability to learn all applicable codes and ordinances.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, City officials and the general public.
Ability to prepare and maintain clear and concise reports and inspection notices.
While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and speak and hear.
