What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Specialist position at City of Pflugerville?
- Responsible for implementing and enforcing the Pflugerville’s Storm Water Management Program to maintain compliance with General Permit.
- Conduct and log daily construction site inspections for all private development and Capital Improvements Program (CIP) projects within the City of Pflugerville. Participate in preconstruction meetings, initial site inspections and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) review.
- Investigate illicit connections to the City of Pflugerville Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4), adjoining water bodies and storm sewer system and eliminate such discharges from public, private and municipal facilities.
- Coordinate activities between City departments related to the storm water permit and Storm Water Management Program.
- Implement public education and awareness in coordination with the City’s Public Information Office.
- Respond to and investigate environmental related complaints.
- Maintain accurate records and log of inspections; represent the City in court cases and hearings, if necessary.
- Attend various external environmental related meetings, seminars and workshops on behalf of the City.
- Document and report compliance with Pflugerville’s Storm Water Management Program, the Texas Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (TPDES) permit, the Gilleland Creek Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Implementation Plan, and other environmentally related programs when assigned.
- Remains accessible via personal cell phone to address job-related issues or emergencies using City applications.
- Assist in review of private development and CIP construction plans for compliance with City codes, Section 404 Permit Program issues and storm water best management practices (BMP), as well as review of Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans.
- Other duties as assigned.
Formal Education: Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in environmental science, chemistry, biology, microbiology or related field.
Relatable Work Experience: Three (3) years of experience with environmental inspections, permitting, enforcing regulations, and sampling for testing associated with storm water programs, as well as air, soil, water, hazardous waste, and materials.
Training, Licenses, and Certifications: Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control or Certified Professional in Municipal Stormwater Management is required or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire. Valid Texas Driver’s License.

One year of full-time experience is define as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
Salary : $57,351 - $71,688
