About The Position
This is supervisory administrative code enforcement work within the City’s overall licensing and inspection program in the area of specialization. Employees in this class are responsible for supervising primary functional areas within a major section. Supervising the activities of an administrative and/or technical staff as well as providing technical and procedural guidance to contractors, business representatives, departmental officials and the public are significant aspects of the work. Work is performed under the supervision of an administrative superior.

Three years as an L&I Code Enforcement Inspector, L&I Building Inspector or L&I Codes Compliance Specialist.

ELIGIBLE LIST : DEPARTMENTAL - ONLY PROMOTIONAL
Only a departmental promotional eligible list for the Department of Licenses & Inspections will be established as a result of the examination.
Candidates who pass the exam and are placed on the civil service list will be retained on the list for a minimum of one year and a maximum of two years after the establishment of the Eligible List.
PREFERENCE FOR PHILADELPHIA RESIDENTS
Candidates who have maintained a bona fide residence in Philadelphia for at least one year prior to the date of the civil service examination shall have priority over all other persons receiving an identical test score. If you have maintained a bona fide residence in Philadelphia for at least one year immediately preceding April 2, 2025, you are eligible to claim residency preference.
To receive such preference, candidates must respond to the question regarding residence later in this form.
The response on this application will be used to determine eligibility for preference for residents. Documentation of residence may be required if there is any question as to whether you meet the residency preference requirements.
If an applicant does not respond to the appropriate residence question, it will be assumed that the applicant does not qualify for residence preference. Eligibility for residence preference must be determined by the date of the test administration. No requests for residence preference will be granted after the test administration.

Code Violations Specialty
- EDUCATION : Completion of an associate’s degree program at an accredited college or university.
- EXPERIENCE : One year of experience as an L&I Code Administrator.
Three years as an L&I Code Enforcement Inspector, L&I Building Inspector or L&I Codes Compliance Specialist.
Notes For Code Violations Specialty Only
- Additional Experience in any of the classes listed above can be substituted for the educational requirement on a year for year basis.
- Certification as a Fire Inspector 1 by the International Code Council ( ICC ) along with certification in Hazardous Materials Awareness by an agency such as the Philadelphia Fire Department can be substituted for one year of the required education.
- Certification as a Fire Inspector 2 by the International Code Council ( ICC ) by an agency such as the Philadelphia Fire Department can be substituted for one year of the required education.
