The Phoenix Police Department is seeking an Accountant I. This position performs entry-level, professional accounting work with minimal supervision. T he Accountant I position will be responsible for processing all billing activities including Intergovernmental Agreement monthly billings, monthly Activity Allocations, reviewing and approving documents in SAP, shopping carts in eProcurement, and fulfilling the requirements of the Equal Opportunity Business Plan. This position assists in the preparation of the department budget.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Familiarity with accounting transactions rules, regulations, and internal controls
  • Ability to manage data using programs such as Microsoft Access and Excel.
  • Collects and analyzes financial data such as source documents used for accounting records of initial entry, control accounts, and financial reports.
  • Understand governmental accounting concepts such as encumbrance
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize at short notice, and process documents timely and efficiently.
  • Ability to collect and analyze financial data such as source documents used for accounting records of initial entry, control accounts, and financial reports.
  • Understanding of the City of Phoenix requirements pertaining to processing documents and encumbering funds.
  • Technical writing and review capabilities (e.g. policies, procedures, rules, and reports).


SALARY

Pay Range: $23.74 to $40.61 per hour.

Hiring Range: $23.74 to $40.61 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; or
  • Four years of paraprofessional accounting and/or payroll experience.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

  • Positions in the Police Department must meet the background standards that are appropriate to non-sworn positions. The general factors for disqualification are listed here .
  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Preferred Qualifications

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

Experience with/in

  • Accounting transactions rules, regulations and internal controls.
  • Budgets, financial analysis, and/or cost and fee analysis.
  • Accounts payable.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Excel.
  • Customer service.
  • Retrieving information through CC&B and produce reports.
  • Reconciling accounts for internal and external customers.
  • Working with computerized accounting systems and software such SAP and PeopleSoft.
  • Multiple funding sources.
  • Vendor Invoice Management (VIM) system or SRM eProcurement.
