About This Position
The Planning & Development Department (PDD) guides the physical development of the city by preserving our historic sites, planning what can be built where, and ensuring safe construction of buildings and infrastructure. A host of advisory and governing bodies of residents as well as elected officials provide oversight as the city grows and needs arise.
The City of Phoenix Planning & Development Department (PDD) is seeking a motivated and results-driven individual for an Accountant II position of the Financial Services Section.
The Accountant II provides accounting support for duties or projects in a cross-functional team supporting a large city department. This position reconciles general ledger accounts related to the cash and revenue that is received in Planning and Development. Is responsible to update professionals, customer service items, and research, related to the AR invoicing process. AR accruals will be done monthly as well as Sales Tax revenue.
This position will also serve as Finance department liaison for Accounts Receivable and Cash Handling, the PCI DSS liaison for PDD with the ITS and Finance departments ensuring the department maintains compliance, including conducting required yearly training. Provide cash handling training to all new employees handling cash.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Pay Range: $58,593.60 to $100,235.20 annually.
Hiring Range: $58,593.60 to $95,451.20 annually.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Procedures.
- Ability to meet deadlines in a high-volume and multi-task environment.
- Possess a high level of organization and detail oriented.
- Strong background in Accounts Receivable and reconciliation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including advanced Excel skills
- Proficient using SAP or other accounting software
- Commitment to excellent customer service with strong verbal and written communication skills.
Pay Range: $58,593.60 to $100,235.20 annually.
Hiring Range: $58,593.60 to $95,451.20 annually.

Minimum Qualifications
- Three years of professional level experience in accounting.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

- All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- Experience reconciling large amounts of general ledger accounts from multiple systems.
- Experience with multiple accounting types such as Public, Cost, Private, Banking, Auditing, or Government.
- Experience performing monthly balancing and reconciliation of various accounting documents.
- Experience preparing financial reports and maintaining accurate accounting records.
- Experience with Accounts Receivable (AR)/invoicing and collections.
- Two or more years of supervising experience.
- Experience in training and writing procedures.
- Shape PHX and KIVA experience.
- Experience with auditing.
