About This Position
The Crisis Intervention Specialist plays a critical role in providing immediate support and intervention to individuals, families, and community members who have experienced traumatic events, behavioral health crises, or substance use emergencies. This position involves responding to 9-1-1 calls for service as a single unit response, or a co-response team with fire or police personnel to address urgent needs in person. Follow-up with individuals may be conducted in-person or by phone.
Crisis Intervention Specialists develop and implement complex casework plans and counseling strategies tailored to the unique needs of each individual. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive assessments to determine needs and risk factors, including evaluations of potential danger to self (DTS) or danger to others (DTO). The role also requires motivational interviewing techniques to assess eligibility for social services, identify barriers to access, and provide short-term counseling or case management support. Specialists facilitate transportation to appropriate care facilities or social service agencies, ensuring a seamless transition for individuals served.
In this position, successful candidates work collaboratively with other Crisis Intervention Specialists and Peer Support Specialists while maintaining a high degree of independence. Strong skills in engagement, de-escalation, and handling high-level referrals efficiently are essential for a candidate to possess. Candidates will demonstrate sound decision-making, adhering to regulations and agency policies and procedures while addressing customer concerns with diplomacy and professionalism.

- 1700-0300 (5PM to 3AM) Sunday- Wednesday & Wednesday - Saturday
- 1800-0400 (6PM to 4AM) Wednesday - Saturday
- 2030 -0630 (8:30PM to 6:30AM) Wednesday-Saturday
- 1000-2000 (10AM to 8 PM) Sunday - Wednesday & Wednesday - Saturday
- 2000-0800 (8PM to 6AM) Sunday - Wednesday & Wednesday - Saturday
- 0600-1600 (6AM to 4 PM) Sunday - Wednesday & Wednesday - Saturday
- 1600-0200 (4PM to 2 AM) Sunday - Wednesday & Wednesday - Saturday
- Knowledge of responses to traumatic incidents, substance use disorder, behavioral health experience, and grief responses.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage stressful situations with competing deadlines accurately and efficiently.
- Possess strong computer skills with a working knowledge of all Microsoft applications, including PowerPoint, and procurement procedures.
- Ability to work with diverse groups of individuals and create and maintain a positive work environment that encourages input and feedback from team members and supervisors.
- An ability to adjust quickly to change, open to working with first responders, individuals with lived experience, and other professional entities.
- Ability to work as a team player.
- Proficiency in Spanish or another language in addition to English, desired though not required.
- Intermediate level computer proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel.

Minimum Qualifications
- Two years experience in crisis intervention, counseling, or working with crime victims.
- Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling or related field.
- A Master's degree in the same disciplines is preferred and will count toward one year of the required experience.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

- Experience:
- Supervising staff and volunteers.
- Providing customer service to a diverse population.
- Completing case note documentation and report writing.
- Developing resources and/or working with community partners.
- Providing on-scene crisis and behavioral health services.
- Providing outreach, community-based social services, and resources.
- Victim Services: Experience working with domestic violence, sexual violence, and homicide.
- Homeless Services: Experience providing homeless and crisis intervention services, including community-based services and resources.
