ABOUT THIS POSITION


The City of Phoenix Public Works Department is looking for Equipment Service Worker IIs to performs skilled servicing, mechanical maintenance, and minor repairs to automotive, heavy duty, and other motorized equipment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing routine servicing and maintenance of engines, transmissions, chassis, air conditioning, and tune-ups.
  • Repairing and replacing wheel bearings and brakes.
  • balancing tires and wheels; and patching and repairing tires.
  • Work also involves maintaining service parts and inventory records and installing and fabricating City decals, light bar kits, arrow boards, dash switches, electrical wiring, gauges, and other equipment and components.

IDEAL CANDIDATE


Knowledgeable and/or skilled in:

  • General knowledge of all vehicular systems including and not limited to engine, transmission, chassis, air conditioning, hydraulics, electrical, and tune-up.
  • Trade school/apprenticeship certificate and/or vocational training.

SALARY


Pay Range: $20.51 to $30.31 per hour.

Hiring Range: $20.51 to $24.93 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of experience in automotive servicing, maintenance, and repair of vehicular equipment.
  • Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • May be scheduled to work irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, evenings.
  • Automotive Service Equipment (ASE) Certifications in either light duty automotive or heavy equipment.

Experience in:

  • Inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing of vehicle systems.
  • Alternative fuels and fuel management practices.
  • Emergency vehicle technician.
  • Off road vehicles.
  • Welding and fabrication.
