About This Position
The HVAC Technician II (Building Equip Op I) offers experienced HVAC/Mechanical Systems Technicians the opportunity to join our team in performing skilled and semi-skilled work in the installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of heating and air conditioning systems/components and other mechanical equipment, including automatic doors/gates, pumps, air compressors, and fire/life safety systems, in one or more public buildings. Vacancies are anticipated over the life of the eligible-to-hire list. This position often works independently, requiring a high degree of self-motivation and the ability to work alone.
Aviation Department
Aviation employees can be assigned to work shifts within the 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week business operating hours. Depending on the crew¿s assignment, you could be assigned to a first, second, third, weekend, or split shifts and holidays.

- Sunday-Wednesday 5:00am - 3:30pm
- Sunday-Wednesday 2:30pm - 1:00am
- Monday-Thursday 5:00am - 3:30pm
- Wednesday-Saturday 5:00am - 3:30pm
- Wednesday-Saturday 2:30pm - 1:00am
Public Works Department
Hours For This Role Include Either
- Four 10-hour shifts are available working Monday through Thursday from 6:30am - 5:00pm. Days off are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
- Four 10-hour shifts are available working Tuesday through Friday from 6:30am - 5:00pm. Days off are Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
- Five 8-hour shifts are available working Monday through Friday from 6:30am - 3:00pm.
- A skilled technician with the desire to learn mechanical systems beyond HVAC equipment such as auto-gates, auto- doors, and jet-bridges.
- Ability to:
- Work independently and safely using standard HVAC technician tools & equipment, i.e. climbing ladders, electric and hydraulic lifts, power tools, hand tools, refrigerant recovery equipment.
- Proficiently read and interpret blueprints, performance charts, control panels and PC terminals.
- Use Building Automation Systems (BAS) to operate HVAC equipment and analyze the information to assist in diagnosing system issues.
$28.86 - $38.68 per hour base wage. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
Additional Compensation For Unit 2 Positions Includes
- Shift differential pay is available for hours worked during nights and weekends.
- Standby is currently compensated at $2.50 per hour.
- Callout requests and responses are paid at time and a half normal hourly wage.
- Paid time off includes 13.5 paid holidays, 12 vacation days, and 15 sick days and personal leave days.
- 401(a), 3.62% employer contribution of base wage for Unit 002 employees.

Minimum Qualifications
- Four years of experience in the operation and maintenance of large and small, modern refrigeration and heating systems,
- Supplemented by training in modern refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
- OR Completion of an acceptable apprenticeship program.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
- Possess EPA 608 HVACR Universal certification at time of application.
- Aviation positions: Must also possess a Universal CFC certification at time of application.

- Chillers, cooling towers, and pumps.
- Light plumbing repairs.
- Pipe fitting, brazing, soldiering, and welding various pipe materials.
- maintaining and repairing Variable Frequency Drives.
- Preventative maintenance programs and processes.
- A customer service-oriented environment.
- Reading, interpreting and working from prints, sketches, diagrams.
- Mechanical equipment (auto doors, jetways, air compressors, pumps etc.).
- Building Automation Systems such as Johnson Controls, Alerton, Andover's Continuum, Delta, and Trane.
- SAP and MS Office applications (e.g., Word and Excel).
- Operation and maintenance of commercial and residential heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R).
- Operating, servicing, and repairing commercial chill water systems.
- Experience in/with:
- Operating air compressors.
- Fire/life safety systems.
- Automatic door and gate services and repairs.
- Installation and service of package and split HVAC/R equipment.
- Troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing 3-Phase commercial/industrial equipment.
- Servicing and repairing air-handlers, fan-coils, and variable air volume (VAV) systems.
- Servicing and repairing industrial pumps that include domestic, sewer, and hydronic systems.
- Central plant equipment, maintenance of chilled water systems, cooling towers, and related components.
- Experience with:
- Industrial water treatment as it pertains to centralized chilled water plants for comfort cooling applications.
- Central plant equipment, maintenance of chilled water systems, cooling towers and related components.
- Servicing and repairing of air-handlers, fan-coils, and variable air volume (VAV) systems.
- Installation and service of package and split HVAC/R equipment.
- BAS/EMS system monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Reading and interpreting blueprints and working drawings.
- Operating air compressors.
- Automatic gate services and repairs.
- Servicing and repairing industrial pumps that include domestic, sewer, and hydronic systems.
- Fire and life safety systems including BAS/EMS system monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Servicing and repairing air-handlers, fan-coils, and VAV's including the installation and service of package and split HVAC/R equipment.
- The use of a comprehensive preventive maintenance system to perform routine maintenance on HVAC and related equipment.
- Experience with:
- Troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing 3-Phase commercial/industrial equipment.
- Performing maintenance and repairs to split systems, mini split systems, wall mounted A/C units, heat pumps, water source heat pumps, package units, gas packs, evaporative coolers, and exhaust fans.
