Intelligent Transportation Systems Specialist (Electronic Systems Specialist) - Street Transportation Department

The Street Transportation Department is recruiting for an Electronic Systems Specialist (Intelligent Transportation Systems Specialist /ITS) position in the Traffic Services Section. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, the technical evaluation, installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of the citywide traffic signal IT network system and electrical/electronic infrastructure that makes up the entire Intelligent Transportation IT Network System. The Traffic Signal Shop provides 24/7 technical field support and emergency response to internal and external customers.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
• Knowledge of analog and digital electronics.
• Knowledge of networking, electronic communications, and/or intelligent transportation systems.
• Able to diagnose problems or malfunctions and accomplish repairs in a minimal amount of time.
• Able to perceive the full range of the color spectrum in working with LED's, color coded wires, etc.
• Able to configure and use laptop/computers to access the traffic signal network devices and databases.
• Able to communicate orally in the English language with individuals in a face-to-face, one-on-one setting or by telephone.

Pay Range: $28.17 to $39.64 per hour.

Hiring Range: $28.17 to $35.96 per hour.

• Three years of journey level experience in installation and maintenance of electronic and digital systems or related distribution systems.
• Associate's degree in electronics or related field.
• Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

  • Working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
  • Working in a vehicle based aerial lift or bucket truck at heights up to 40 feet.
  • Working shift, weekend, and holiday work hours.
  • Participating in an after-hours/weekend on-call rotation schedule.
  • Moving objects weighing 50 pounds or more may be required.
  • Climbing ladders or steps to reach objects and work at heights greater than ten feet.

• Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

• Three years of experience as an IT Technician, ITS Specialist and/or Electronics Technician.
• Experience with IP addressing and VLAN Networking.
• Experience with fiber optic or wireless radio communications, testing, IP addressing and/or installation.
• IMSA Certification - Traffic Signal Level II, preferred.
