The Street Transportation Department is seeking a Senior Construction Inspector (Right-of-Way Specialist) to fill a vacancy in the Director's Office - Universal Inspection Program. The Senior Construction Inspector (Right-of-Way Specialist) will be assigned to a City Council District and be responsible for proactively identifying pavement, sidewalk, faded or damaged signs, and other right-of-way conditions in need of repair or replacement.

Duties Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Driving or walking all public streets within assigned areas to proactively identify issues in the right-of-way.
  • Attending and presenting at community meetings/events, block watch meetings, etc.
  • Attending monthly or quarterly meetings with Police and Neighborhood Services Departments.
  • Generating work orders in various computer applications.
  • Tracking work orders to completion.
  • Coordinating work activity with staff from various departments.
  • Keeping accurate records and notes for reference.
  • Generating weekly and monthly reports.
  • Responding to high level requests via email, in-person and over the phone.
  • Monitoring assigned geographical area and proactively identify code violations, traffic sign, and paint maintenance needs.


IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Knowledge of barricade set up.
  • Familiar with the City of Phoenix street layout.
  • Knowledge of Uniform Traffic Control Devices manual.
  • Familiar with the City of Phoenix Traffic Barricade Manual for daily inspections.
  • Ability to make sound decisions, strong written and verbal communication skills, must be extremely organized and self-motivated.


SALARY

Pay Range: $28.86 to $42.64 per hour.

Hiring Range: $28.86 to $35.08 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in construction related activities.
  • One year of experience in the inspection of public works construction projects.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

  • These positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Working Conditions

  • Requires working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
  • Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.
  • Requires walking for prolonged periods, which may include walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.


Preferred Qualifications

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus experience in/with:

  • Right-of-Way inspections.
  • Temporary Traffic Control and Barricades.
  • Assist in coordinating special event set up and tear down.
  • Researching property owner and maintenance responsibility.
  • Responding to Mayor and City Council requests and constituents.
  • Using tablets or handheld devices for research and creating work orders.
  • Providing quality customer service to the public by telephone, email, or in person.
  • Using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Reading and interpreting plat maps, quarter section maps, boundary books, drainage and other maintenance maps, site, and project plans, as-builts and historical documents.
