Job Description Berkshire Athenaeum, Pittsfield\'s Public Library, is seeking to fill the part-time position of Technical Services Assistant. This individual will assist the Technical Services Supervisor in meeting library and departmental goals by performing certain specific functions, including cataloging / processing materials, computer maintenance and troubleshooting, and other higher-level routine library functions of moderate complexity. This individual may be cross-trained to perform grade appropriate tasks in other library departments. The hours for this position are twelve (12) hours per week, Mondays, Tuesdays, & Thursdays, 9am-1pm, with the potential for opportunities to work as a substitute in other departments. Responsibilities - Performs copy cataloging of a variety of materials. - Assists with updating staff and patron computers, and conducts basic diagnostic and maintenance procedures. - Performs catalog and internet searches. - Processes and catalogs library materials - Provides substitute public desk coverage, as applicable. - Performs other special projects as assigned, both one-time and ongoing. Qualifications - A high school diploma is required, with some college or technical school course work desired; or one year of related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Computer skills or demonstrated ability / aptitude to be trained in this area - Familiarity with the library\'s online catalog and basic circulation functions or aptitude for being trained in its use. - Demonstrated problem-solving skills. - Demonstrated patience and skill in dealing with general public.
