JOB TITLE: QUALITY ASSURANCE TRAFFIC INSPECTOR
DEPARTMENT: PUBLIC SERVICES

The Quality Assurance Traffic Inspector supports the Traffic Superintendent in ensuring that contracted and in-house public infrastructure work meets quality and safety standards. This includes inspecting work related to street markings, lighting, traffic signals, public shade trees, signage, utility work, and snow removal. The role is also responsible for regulatory compliance, enforcing safety protocols, and maintaining comprehensive inspection records.

Responsibilities
While performing the duties of the Inspector, the incumbent is required to: interact and communicate frequently with the public, government officials, other staff members and boards, and/or third parties transacting business with the City. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather. Incumbent may be required to work at any time during the 24-hour day to respond to weather-related or emergency needs.
Physical Requirements
Operates standard office equipment including computers and keyboards, at efficient speed; and move throughout municipal buildings which may include flights of stairs. Operate equipment used for maintenance of City infrastructure and general grounds maintenance, walk long distances over sometimes uneven terrain, lift/move up to 50 pounds from the ground to shoulder height, and generally perform heavy labor. Agility & ability sufficient to personally visit & inspect facilities in remote and difficult access locations, including pits & vaults, bridges, upper reaches of trees using a bucket truck, lift, etc.
HOURS
Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week
7:30am – 4:00pm
Salary
Starting rate $27.03 $28.54
Annual increases up to $37.43 per hour

Responsibilities
- Inspects contracted work performed for the City for compliance with the specification.
- Enforces safety regulations and maintains records documenting inspections. Inspections include but are not limited to: contracted or in-house work related to street markings, street lighting, traffic signals, public shade tree management, street signs, snow removal operations, etc.
- Inspects, in coordination with the Water and Sewer Divisions, all utility work performed by private contractors and city staff for compliance with local, state and federal standards and regulations, and enforces safety regulations.
- Enforce safety standards on all worksites and report any violations.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of all inspections and findings.
- Assists in training full-time and seasonal employees; supervises work of direct reports, including enforcement of safety regulations, conducting annual performance evaluations, coaching and addressing any performance concerns.
- Respond to emergencies and weather-related events, including participation in snow removal.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license, class D.
- Five years of experience in maintenance and construction of highway and water distribution systems.
- Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of roadway pavement and infrastructure maintenance. Ability to read and use drawings and maps. Possess a working knowledge of MUTCD sign policy.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise maintenance personnel with varying skills.
- Demonstrated ability to inspect and manage private contract work including quality of work, timeliness and financial accounting.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate and supervise multi-phase jobs or operations and execute schedules.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to deal effectively with other staff members, departments, elected officials, volunteers and the general public.
- Demonstrated ability to use a personal computer, including basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs.
