What are the responsibilities and job description for the Telecommunications Operator position at CITY OF PLEASANTON?
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensures calls for service are dispatched in a timely manner
• Ensures the requests for service are being handled according to department policy and procedures
• Makes critical notifications in major incidents
• Performs other related duties as required by supervisors, Patrol Division, CID Investigators, and Command Staff
• Communicates with dispatched units from the City of Pleasanton and other agencies
• Maintains a professional image while on duty as a representative of the department
• Greets citizens in the Police Department lobby
• Fields citizens’ concerns by phone
• Other duties as assigned
JOB DIMENSIONS:
• Assisting the public in dispatching Calls for Service in many capacities
• Maintaining open and active communication with Patrol Division and CID Investigators and other agencies
• Maintaining a close working relationship with other Officers and Investigators
• Dispatching and coordinating dispatch of emergency services personnel from various agencies
• Maintaining a working relationship with the community
• Maintaining sound judgment within guidelines set by State law, city policy, and department policy in situations of high stress
• Coordinates dispatching of critical incidents
• Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Physical requirements include lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally.
• Subject to standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, crawling, squatting, kneeling and working in cramped and strained positions for long periods of time to perform job scope.
• Working conditions are primarily inside with frequent exposure to outdoors.
