Line Clearance Tree Trimmer-Limited Term (May-September)

Performs a variety of manual and clerical tasks involved in trimming and removal of trees to prevent interference with electric lines and stations.   Also performs tasks involved in the construction and maintenance of the electric power distribution system.  This position works under the general supervision of the Electrical Operations Manager.

 Examples of Essential Job Functions

• Learns and practices proper safety precautions.
• Assists the electric line crews as a groundman as needed. 
• Cleans work site.
• Loads and stores materials and equipment.
• Keeps shop clean and tools and equipment organized.
• Respond effectively to citizen complaints.
• Does related work as required including providing limited assistance to the Department of Public Works as needed.

• Perform work safely both alone and as a member of a crew.
• Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Be able to work diligently with little supervision.
• Learn new skills rapidly.
• Perform strenuous tasks under all weather conditions.
• Must have good mechanical aptitude.
• Must maintain good physical condition.
• Some knowledge of the safety precautions necessary in tree trimming.
• Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment.
• Completion of a high school diploma or GED equivalent. 
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Some experience in performing general mechanical work.
• Possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License with good driving record.

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee works in high, precarious places or below grade and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud in field settings, and moderately quiet in office settings.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is required to stand.  The employee is required to walk; talk or hear; sit; climb or balance; climb stairs: stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
