The Environmental GIS Intern assists Science and Environment staff with data collection, research, outreach, GIS and other projects. The Environmental GIS Intern is provided with an opportunity to gain valuable training, experience and insight to stormwater and watershed management as well as other environmental programs.
The job requires the ability to maintain a collaborative and cooperative working relationship with elected and appointed officials, other City employees, other organizations, and the general public.
The work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions, including on a variety of terrain. This position performs both office and field work.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 85 pounds with assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

- Duties include researching local natural resources within public open spaces, gathering data from 1) agency partners, 2) online or 3) in the field, GIS mapping and analysis, and writing reports.
- Completes projects in accordance with established deadlines. Manages multiple tasks in the furtherance of department goals.

- Current enrollment in a 4-year degree or graduate degree program with a major in Biological Sciences, Geosciences, Political Science, Civil or Environmental Engineering or a similar program with a minimum 3.0 GPA is required;
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills are preferred;
- Demonstrated skills with GIS mapping and analysis;
- Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Suite, is required;
- Idaho driver’s license required.
