As a Technical Specialist I - Skateboarding Instructor, you'll have the chance to teach the youth through our skateboarding programs. Our hourly, part-time positions offer an average of 20 hours per week, ensuring a flexible schedule that aligns with your life while contributing to less than 1,000 hours in a twelve (12) month period.

Work Hours
Work hours will be approximately 10-20 hours per week. Some weekends and evening shifts may be required.

Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
 
 Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency required.
  • 1 year of experience in the field of skateboarding, preferably in an instructional capacity.
  • 1 year of paid or volunteer experience working directly with youth. 
License or Certificates
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Class "C" driver's license and have a good driving record.

  • Develop and implement skateboarding classes, camps and programs.
  • Ensure programmatic, contractual, grant, and City goals and deadlines are met.
  • Develop curriculum and teach program content appropriate to the participant’s age and skill.
  • Oversee and address program specific risk management and safety concerns.
  • Act as a liaison between staff, community members, collaborative partners and other city personnel.
  • Act as a resource to staff in curriculum development, participant recruitment, retention and assessing programmatic needs.
  • Conduct and/or attend regular meetings and training sessions that directly affect the development, planning, coordination and implementation of site programs.
  • Work collaboratively to develop and foster new programs and best practices throughout all program locations.
  • Meet deadlines while maintaining high quality of work.
  • Ensure established emergency and safety procedures are followed at all times.
  • Accurately document all incidents/accidents and ensure proper communication to all parties as appropriate.
  • Communicate in a positive and effective manner with all participants, City officials, parents/guardians, community members, co-workers, volunteers and guests.
  • Maintain professional demeanor at all times to ensure the City's image and mission statement are upheld.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Ability to work in a standard office environment and outdoors in city parks; ability to travel to different sites and locations.
Examination Procedure
Screening of qualifications and "most qualified" is based on the information provided on the official City Application.  A resume may be attached to your application but will not substitute for the completion of your application. Applications that are not entirely completed may be rejected. The examination process for this position may consist of a qualifications review, a supplemental background questionnaire, skill demonstration and an oral interview weighing 100% of the applicant's final score. The Human Resources Department may waive any part of the examination depending upon the number of applicants. This recruitment will also establish a list for future vacancies.
