The City of Pomona is currently seeking dynamic individuals to join our team as Technical Specialist I (Special Events). This part-time position offers a unique opportunity to be at the heart of planning, coordinating, and executing memorable citywide events that brings our community together.
As a Technical Specialist I - Special Events, you will play a vital role in organizing a wide range of events, including the City's beloved Egg Hunts, Concerts in the Park, Movies in the Park, Haunted House, Tree Lighting, and Holiday at the Plaza, among others. Your creative input and enthusiastic attitude will be key in making these events unforgettable.
This opportunity is classified as at-will, hourly/part-time positions with no benefits provided. Hourly/part-time positions average 20 hours per week and less than 1,000 hours in a twelve (12) month period.

Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalency required.
- 1 year of experience organizing and assisting with special events.
License or Certificates
- Must possess and maintain a valid California Class "C" driver's license and have a good driving record.

- Promote City events, activities, facilities, and other special projects.
- Setting up a variety of decorations, props, supplies and equipment, including but not limited to; movie projectors, inflatable movie screens, sound equipment, folding tables, chairs, canopies, etc. May also include an occasional use of a ladder.
- Act as a liaison between staff, community members, collaborative partners and other city personnel.
- Conduct and/or attend regular meetings and training sessions that directly affect the development, planning, coordination and implementation of special events.
- Work collaboratively to develop and foster new events and best practices throughout all program locations.
- Meet deadlines while maintaining high quality of work.
- Ensure established emergency and safety procedures are followed at all time.
- Accurately document all incidents/accidents and ensure proper communication to all parties as appropriate.
- Communicate in a positive and effective manner with all community members, City officials, co-workers, volunteers and guests.
- Maintain professional demeanor at all times to ensure the City's image and mission statement are upheld.
- Adhere to all established policies, procedures & protocol.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Ability to work in a standard office environment; ability to travel to different sites and locations; ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
Work Hours
Work hours will be approximately 15-20 hours per week. Hours will vary based on event schedules and will include some evening and weekend shifts.
Examination Procedure
Screening of qualifications and "most qualified" is based on the information provided on the official City Application. The examination process for this position may consist of a qualifications review, a supplemental background questionnaire, and an oral interview weighing 100% of the applicant's final score.
