Technical skilled work involves activities and functions pertaining to aspects of the Parks & Recreation Department including but not limited to the operation of specified medium or heavy equipment and the performance of skilled and semi-skilled professional work. This position involves physical, labor intensive work including Emergency Management assigned tasks, renovations to various grounds, fields, and facilities, and general maintenance of assigned tasks. Works varied hours including weekends, nights, and holidays. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.
This position is an Essential classification and will be required to report to duty before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency.
This position requires DOT physical and drug screening.

- Operates single and tandem axle dump trucks, water trucks, chippers, and loaders on assigned projects and rework tasks.
- Operates light and heavy equipment performing various construction maintenance activities.
- Maintains equipment and facilities by performing manual labor and semi-skilled work.
- Maintains various grounds, fields, and parks by mowing, weeding, tilling, raking, digging, and other manual labor tasks.
- Prepares fields, grounds, and courts for athletic activities.
- Performs painting, turf drainage system installations, irrigation maintenance, and spraying.
- Performs sodding, seeding, trimming, edging, mulching, verticutting, aerifying, topdressing, fertilizing, and similar work in parks and other City grounds.
- Performs litter control functions; cleans restrooms; sets up picnics and other areas.
- Must be able to operate vehicles with trailers to load/unload large turf equipment.
- Performs preventative maintenance functions on vehicles, tractors, and power equipment.
- Makes daily written and oral reports.
- Informs and directs public in the use of facilities.
- Other duties as may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is required. Three (3) years of grounds maintenance experience is required. One (1) year of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of moderately heavy trucks or similar equipment is required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Possession of a valid Class B Florida Driver’s License with tanker endorsement and maintenance of a clean driving record required.
- Possession of a valid Class A Florida Driver’s License and maintenance of a clean driving record, preferred.
- Loader Training Certification and Rubber Tire Loader Certification required.
- Water Truck Certification to be obtained one (1) year from the date of hire.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, use of dump and flatbed trucks, tractors, and of less complex parks equipment.
- Knowledge of traffic and other regulations governing the use of equipment.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazard involved and the safety precautions necessary in the operation of equipment.
- Knowledge of landscape maintenance, turf installation, and irrigation systems
- Knowledge of tools and equipment required to perform duties.
- Knowledge of groundskeeping practices and principles.
- Skill in the operation of flatbed and dump trucks, tractors, moving attachments, and the less complex construction equipment.
- Skill in the operation and preventive maintenance of equipment and related tools.
- Ability to operate equipment required to perform duties.
- Ability to make emergency repairs to motor-driven equipment.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor under various weather conditions.
