This position is an Essential classification and will require you to report to duty before, during and after a civil emergency.

- Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie and Utility Systems Department at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintaining high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
- Provides “on-site” supervision during the following operation or maintenance activities that may affect water quality of quantity: tapping, depressurizing/dewatering, or disinfecting existing water mains; varied maintenance and construction activities to the Utility water distribution systems; tapping water mains to be used for service lines; maintenance on exposed mains (remove pipe, maintain valves); transfer back to front (switch from main behind house to main in front); re-route service lines; install new services; small distribution main repair (valve, clamp replacement); cut-ins/tie-ins; install/relocate a fire hydrant, transmission main repair; install line stop; set up and install service saddles and valves in water main.
- Locates, installs, repairs and maintains water distribution lines and mains.
- Installs and sets water meters, tests large and small meters.
- Installs, repairs, maintains/exercises and tests fire hydrants, valves, and other devices.
- Regular and punctual attendance.
- Performs routine maintenance and repairs on equipment.
- Required to go on twenty-four (24) hour on-call rotation.
- Investigates inquiries and converses with customers.
- Trains and instructs new staff members in established procedures and methods.
- Maintains accurate records in the Water Distribution System Operating and Maintenance (O&M) log; perform computer data entry.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
THIS POSITION REQUIRES SCHEDULED/UNSCHEDULED OVERTIME, INCLUDING EVENINGS, WEEKENDS, AND HOLIDAYS AND/OR IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO EMERGENCY CONDITIONS.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma supplemented by specialized technical training. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience with Water Distribution systems required. A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Water Distribution System Operator Level 3 license issued by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) required.
- Possession of a valid Florida CDL Driver’s License with Tanker endorsement with maintenance of a clean driving record.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of standard electrical and mechanical tools and test equipment.
- Proven mechanical ability as it relates to utility pumps, motors, and other appurtenances; proper use of tools and testing equipment, read and use charts and blueprints.
- Knowledge of materials used in the construction and maintenance of water distribution systems.
- Knowledge of safe work techniques and practices used in line construction.
- Ability to make independent judgments and decisions.
