GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Deputy Fire Chief is responsible for overseeing the administration and implementation of programs, services, and activities that safeguard public safety and enhance community well-being. This includes managing fire inspections, investigations, and fire prevention initiatives. Additionally, this role oversees comprehensive training programs for a progressive Fire/EMS agency, ensuring personnel meet operational and regulatory standards. The position also involves directing and coordinating activities during training and emergency firefighting operations to ensure effective and timely responses. Through strategic oversight, effective management, and a commitment to fostering a collaborative and motivated team, this position ensures consistent delivery of exceptional service to meet the evolving needs of the growing community.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as a key member of the department’s leadership team, providing critical support to the Fire Chief while contributing to strategic planning, goal setting, and policy development for the Community Risk Reduction and Training Divisions.Supervises and conducts inspections of multi-family, commercial, and industrial structures to ensure compliance with local, state, and national fire codes. Collaborates with architects, contractors, and other partners to review building plans, address fire safety concerns, and ensure adherence to applicable regulations.Develops and implements programs aimed at enhancing community safety and reducing risk, including tailored public education initiatives. Works closely with community stakeholders, agencies, and organizations to promote fire safety awareness and encourage proactive emergency prevention strategies.Oversees fire investigations to determine causes and contributing factors, ensuring accurate records are maintained. Prepares detailed reports to support regulatory compliance, legal proceedings, and accreditation efforts.Plans, implements, and evaluates training programs for fire department personnel, emergency medical providers, and technical rescue teams to ensure essential skills are maintained. Updates lesson plans and instructional materials while managing a comprehensive system for tracking training activities and certifications.Recruits, trains, and supervises instructional staff, ensuring they are equipped to deliver effective training programs. Fosters a culture of safety and professionalism while monitoring adherence to training objectives and performance standards.Develops and oversees budgets for Community Risk Reduction and training activities, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and essential equipment is procured to support operational and program goals.Provides leadership during fireground and emergency operations by managing incidents, coordinating resources, and ensuring the safety of personnel and the public through effective decision-making and communication.When needed, delivers emergency medical care by assessing patient conditions, providing appropriate treatments, and collaborating with other medical professionals to ensure quality care.Monitors trends and developments in fire safety and emergency medical services to ensure departmental policies remain current and reflect the highest standards of safety.
