JOB SUMMARY
This position supervises and participates in the collection of solid waste. Job duties consist of varied supervisory and administrative duties. Successful performance helps ensure the effective and efficient provision of services to customers. FLSA status is Non-Exempt.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this classification. OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES (45%)
S upervises and coordinates solid waste collection activities.
O versees and participates in the work of sanitation crews engaged in the collection of solid waste and yard waste.
P atrols the city to identify problem areas and coordinate appropriate responses.
S chedules work crews and prioritizes assignments.
S chedules and directs the maintenance repairs of vehicles.
R eviews reports completed by subordinate personnel; completes a variety of regular and special reports.
PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES (25%)
A ssists in orienting, training, assigning, directing, supervising, and evaluating department personnel; participates in the hiring process of department personnel.
E nsures work is performed in compliance with policies and procedures.
R eviews employee time and leave requests.
C ompletes performance appraisals on subordinate personnel.
PUBLIC RELATIONS & OTHER RELATED DUTIES (30%)
P rovides information to citizens regarding sanitation policy and procedure.
C oordinates with citizens for special pick-ups.
R esponds to citizens' complaints and concerns.
P erforms other related duties as needed or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
H igh School Diploma / GED is required.
T hree (3) years of job-related experience.
T wo (2) year of supervisory experience in municipal sanitation systems preferred.
M ust be twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
M ust possess and maintain a Class "A" Driver's license (or obtain within nine (9) months of employment).

24 Hour Employees ( Fire)
Vacation leave is earned at the following accrual rates for regular full-time employees.

10 years through 15 years accrues 180 hours (7.5 days) per year

Sick Leave -
8 Hour Employees
Sick leave is earned at the rate of 80 hours per year with no accrual limit. The City administers the time and pays for accrued sick leave. You are eligible upon completion of the first full pay period after your hire date.
12 Hour Employees ( Wastewater )
Sick leave is earned at the rate of 84 hours per year with no accrual limit. Retiring employees have the option of receiving payment for the accrued sick leave (up to 378 hours) or converting the leave to service time. The City administers the time and pays for accrued sick leave. You are eligible upon completion of the first full pay period after your hire date.
24 Hour Employees ( Fire )
Sick leave is earned at the rate of 120 hours per year with no accrual limit. Retiring employees have the option of receiving payment for the accrued sick leave (up to 504 hours) or converting the leave to service time. The City administers the time and pays for accrued sick leave. You are eligible upon completion of the first full pay period after your hire date.
Holidays -Twelve paid holidays per year. The City Council determines the holiday schedule for each fiscal year.
