This position is responsible for assisting in maintaining a safe aquatic environment and helping with the operation and maintenance of the swimming pool. Successful performance in this position contributes to an efficient and safe aquatic environment for the public. FLSA status is Non-Exempt.The following duties are normal for this classification. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or logical assignments for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Specific duties listed may not be required for all positions in this classification, but are determined by the normal requirements for this particular position.
LIFEGUARD DUTIES (70%)
Lifeguarding during open pool times, swim lessons, and special events.
POOL DUTIES (20%)
Teaching assigned classes.
MAINTENANCE DUTIES (10%)
Maintenance of the pool.
Maintaining the locker room and restroom areas.
Maintaining the deck area.
Performs other duties as needed or assigned.Must be fifteen (15) years of age or older.
Must possess a current Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate at the time the application is completed.
Must have a current CPR certification. (Applicants may apply with the intention of obtaining this certification, however, your application will not be considered for review until the certification is received in the Human Resources Department.)
Experience as a lifeguard preferred.The following requirements are normal for this classification. Job duties are typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. Job duties are typically outdoors, occasionally in extremely hot weather. Employees are exposed to noise, dust, dirt, and irritating chemicals.
Job duties may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
Job duties require the ability to deal with and relate to people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
Job duties require the ability to talk, express, or exchange ideas by means of spoken words and/or hear and perceive the nature of sounds by ear.
Job candidates must be able to adapt to and perform under moderate stress.
Job duties require regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
