What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temp Auditor position at City of Pueblo?
This is a non-exempt, part-time/temporary position limited to 1,300 hours annually. Under the general supervision of the Tax Audit Manager within the Finance Department, the Temp Auditor performs professional level examinations of various business and governmental records of both local and remote businesses; prepares detailed documentation of audit findings, assessments, and results; and assures compliance with the City's Sales/Use Tax and license ordinances. Work requires considerable tact in dealing with the public and involves interpreting Municipal Code, State statute and regulations, and court cases relating to the administration and enforcement of tax or license provisions. Provides customer service to internal and external customers via email, phone, and in-person. Responds to questions and complaints from the public and other City departments.

- Schedule and perform audits efficiently, developing detailed work papers.
- Create comprehensive Excel work papers with tables and formulas.
- Audit various businesses for Sales/Use Tax compliance.
- Apply general accounting principles (depreciation, expenses, accrual).
- Explain Sales/Use Tax and license ordinance requirements to taxpayers.
- Handle collections for Sales/Use Taxes and license fees.
- Determine business license requirements per City ordinances.
- Testify at Sales/Use Tax hearings and court proceedings.
- Perform related accounting technical work.
- Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Ability to explain regulations to City personnel and the public.
- Proficient in mathematical calculations, to include calculating sales tax liabilities.

- Excellent business English usage and communication skills.
- Strong analytical, investigational, and organizational abilities.
- Proficient with modern office equipment and software (e.g., MS Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and follow traffic laws.
- Provides good customer service to supervisors, employees, the public, and agencies.
- Ability to perform job duties in a safe manner.
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or business.
- An associate's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance or business with
- Three (3) years of successful auditing experience
- A valid driver’s license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days of employment.
- License restrictions that may hinder your ability to drive on City business, such as an interlock, will be cause for disqualification.
- During the course of employment, a valid license must be maintained, and the employee must notify the City immediately upon changes to the status of their license.
