Preschool Assistant/ Assistant Preschool Teacher
Work Schedule:
- August - June
- Monday - Friday 8:30am - 12:15pm
- Monday - Friday 12:45 - 4:30pm
- (Schedule is dependent upon class size)
- Each class must have a minimum of ten (10) students enrolled each four -week session to be held.
- Days off - State recognized holidays
- Holidays and vacation time are not paid
Pay Scale:
- $18.00/ $18.25
- Sick leave benefit available
- Health benefits not available
- Enrollment in DRS - PERS State retirement system required
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma; preferable supplemented with college-level Early Childhood coursework; or, any combination of education and experience equivalent to two years teaching experience. Previous educational or recreational experience with children ages 3-5 preferred.
- CPR and First Aid Certified and Blood Borne Pathogens must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Possession of a Food Handler’s Permit or ability to obtain.
- Candidates must successfully pass background check.
Responsibilities:
- Read and become familiar with the schedule for the day.
- Assist in the preparation of activities and in the cleaning up of activities after class.
- Use appropriate guidance and discipline with children as necessary during class.
- Help change room environment and bulletin boards monthly. Help lead teacher with curriculum development.
- Act as lead preschool teacher when the preschool teacher is absent.
- Assist in leading activities for the day.
- Assist in the preparation and clean up for snack time.
- Communicate with parents on a daily basis.
Ability to:
- Monitor and supervise pre-school children in classroom, playground and field activities;
- Lead programs and receive direction from program staff;
- Promote interest in and enthusiasm for preschool programs and activities;
- Administer First Aid and CPR;
- Work evening and weekend hours depending upon program needs;
- Act courteously and tactfully with parents, staff, and the public;
- Read, understand, and execute oral and written instructions;
- Communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written form; including monthly newsletters and email correspondence.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, parents, department personnel and the public;
- Work in a team setting;
- Physically perform the essential functions of the job;
- Obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
