What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Distribution Laborer position at City of Quincy?

Job Duties:
Must be able to read and write to the extent of understanding warning labels on equipment being used, and street signs and numbers
Performs daily responsibilities and activities which include, but are not limited to concrete work and finishing of concrete, fence repair, minor pavement patching, grass cutting, weed control, snow and ice control operations (including snow plow and spreaders), and any other activities appropriate with climatic conditions
Uses simple tools such as screed, shovel, pick, spade; does hand excavating, loading, unloading, material handling, operates pneumatic or electrically powered or gas equipment, and chain saws
Drives trucks through assigned areas and transports material to proper locations
Works in conjunction with helpers to operate compaction equipment
Provides necessary information to supervisory personnel for various reports
Maintains truck or assigned vehicle to keep in good operating condition, keeps truck or vehicle clean and neat, and informs supervisor or mechanics of any mechanical trouble with truck or vehicle
May be required to perform other duties as instructed by supervisory staff
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of appropriate methods of lifting and carrying up to 70 pounds on a routine basis
Knowledge of pulling, and/or pushing heavy items up to 130 pounds
Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions
Bending, kneeling, stretching, pulling and pushing equivalent of 130 pounds, pounding, stooping, climbing, squatting, sitting, standing, running, walking, crawling and sometimes depending on the job assignment, some of the above may be for long periods of time; will also need to get in and out of the truck several times a day
Must wear proper safety gear and equipment suitable to job being performed
Must attend required safety training for duties performed
A physical tailored to this job description must be passed by applicant
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Must possess or have the ability to obtain an Illinois Class B CDL license with airbrake, tanker and passenger endorsement
