Water Treatment Plant Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY:

Supervises the operation of water purification and pumping equipment on assigned shift.

JOB DUTIES:

• Monitor and adjust water purification and pumping equipment.
• Assign and monitor work of operator technicians.
• Checks, oversees, and evaluates the water systems machinery in order to ensure work is being performed according to established policies and procedures.
• Reviews log of shift operators, records readings, and makes reports.
• Collects water samples and performs routine chemical analysis.
• Makes hourly inspections of working apparatus and grounds.
• Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director of Utilities and/or the Superintendent of Water Treatment.

REQUIREMENTS:

Training and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent; associate of science degree in engineering technology, chemistry, biology, physics, water treatment or related field preferred. Minimum two (2) years experience working at a water treatment plant, wastewater treatment plant or industrial facility with similar processes; or the equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must possess knowledge of the physical, chemical and mechanical processes involved in the purification of water; broad knowledge of the functions and mechanics of treatment plant machinery and equipment; broad knowledge of the laboratory procedures involved in the purification of water; and broad knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures necessary in the work.

Skill in preparing professional reports; skill in operating a personal computer with word processing, data base and spreadsheet programs.

Ability to plan, supervise, schedule and direct the work of subordinates; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, employees and the general public, ability to diagnose and solve plant operating, maintenance and treatment problems; ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; good professional judgment; and ability to perform physical activities frequently at a medium demand level.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid State of Illinois Driver's License or equivalent. Must obtain a Class C IEPA operator's license within one year of employment and a Class A IEPA operator's license within three years of employment.

Work is performed under varied weather conditions in some extremely disagreeable conditions.

Residency Requirement

Employee shall reside within the boundaries of Adams County, Illinois within six months of the effective date of employment with the City of Quincy.

Salary : $56,000 - $60,000
