As the Specialized Recreation and Inclusion Services (SRIS) Program Supervisor, you will lead a dedicated team of five full-time staff in creating innovative and inclusive recreation programs that empower individuals with disabilities, reduce barriers, and promote personal growth.   • Supervises staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs comprehensive recreational programs and inclusion services for individuals with disabilities, including camps, outing, and other general recreational programs and services.
  • Continually plans, researches, and develops the different aspects of programming for SRIS. Also oversees guidelines and materials for the program to ensure successful implementation of programs and compliance with safety/risk management policies.
  • Develop, manage, and oversee multiple budgets, including facility and program-specific budgets, ensuring accurate revenue projections, appropriate fund allocation, and fiscal responsibility to support program goals and operational needs
  • Works with community partners, statewide agencies and other advocates to bolster efforts and supports for individuals with disabilities.
  • May provide coordination and facilitation of accreditation process for department
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation, business or public administration, five years of professional recreational programming and/or parks or facilities management experience and two years of supervisory experience.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing/Certifications
  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • Current CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist).
  • Current LRT (Licensed Recreation Therapist) required or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • Ability to complete CPR/First Aid/AED training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid North Carolina Commercial Class B Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to complete NCI or other behavior de-escalation and support training.
  • Bachelor's degree, or higher, in Therapeutic Recreation/Recreation Therapy.
  • Seven years of directly related experience providing specialized recreation program delivery, policy/practice development and/or specialized/therapeutic programs in a recreation setting.
  • Three years of experience directly supervising full-time staff.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  1. Supervisory and Leadership Principles: Practices for managing, coaching, and leading full-time, part-time, and temporary staff in various environments.
  2. Inclusive Recreation and Program Development: Best practices in therapeutic recreation, universal programming design, ADA compliance, and support strategies for individuals with disabilities.
  3. Behavior Management and Customer Service: Techniques for fostering positive participant interactions and delivering exceptional customer service, including service recovery.
  4. Program Administration and Evaluation: Principles of project management, budget development, policy creation, and grant writing for inclusive recreational programs.
  5. Trends and Resources: Knowledge of disability groups, medical diagnoses, emerging industry trends, and qualitative/quantitative research methods to support compliance and innovation.
  1. Project and Time Management: Organizing and prioritizing multiple projects or programs while ensuring adherence to quality standards and deadlines.
  2. Communication and Collaboration: Facilitating group discussions, delivering effective presentations, preparing detailed reports, and building consensus using persuasive reasoning and diplomacy.
  3. Technology: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, for creating reports, managing data, developing presentations, and effective communication, as well as experience using recreation registration software (e.g., RecTrac, ActiveNet) for program enrollment, facility scheduling, revenue tracking, and reporting.

ADA and Other Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with frequent exposure to hazardous physical conditions (such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, etc.); frequent exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, blood and other body fluids); frequent exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and movement restrictions; and moderate exposure intense noise or travel.
