The City of Raleigh Public Utilities Department, now also known as Raleigh Water, provides water and sanitary sewer services to about 198,000 metered customers and a service population of about 600,000 people in Raleigh, Garner, Wake Forest, Rolesville, Knightdale, Wendell, and Zebulon areas. Our Water Distribution division is looking for a Utilities Specialist - Valves to join our team. Utilities Specialists are devoted to completing preventive maintenance, utility repairs, utility locating, participating in investigations within our water system and providing excellent customer service. The Utility Specialists also performs maintenance and equipment operation for the City’s distribution system by performing skilled activities in support of maintaining, replacing, and repairing water assets (i.e., valves services, mains, and fire hydrants, and so forth). Performs technical duties in the Water Distribution system including utility locating, valve maintenance, hydrant maintenance, and system flushingIdentifies and creates work orders per field investigations for repairsWorks with specialized equipment to ensure proper system operabilityMonitors and inspects equipment and the operability of the equipmentEvaluates critical infrastructure by field verification and coordinates excavation with contractorsMeets with contractors and verifies pipe depths and ensures contractors are spotting critical infrastructureLeads other locators with difficult locates or heavy traffic areas to complete locate tickets on timeResponds to contractor damages within the assigned area and documents all information from the damageLeads project team of three to work efficiently on long project ticketsCreates and completes City Works work orders for critical main crossings and locate service requestAssists with training new employees on locate procedures and protocols
