The City of Raleigh is seeking a Landscaping Maintenance Worker to join our Transportation Department. In this role, you will be able to share your experience and knowledge in landscape maintenance. Joining our Transportation Maintenance Division will provide an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in the maintenance of critical infrastructure such as sidewalks, curb and gutter, asphalt, medians, and storm drains. As a member of our 218 person staff, you will contribute to maintenance of 1,130 miles of streets and sidewalks; the upkeep of over 33,000 curb ramps; and the protection of 3.2 million linear feet of stormwater pipes connecting more than 32,000 drainage inlets.Within the Landscape Maintenance Unit you will be part of a team responsible for maintaining medians and rights-of-way throughout the City by trimming trees, bushes, and grass, and planting various trees and plants each season.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operating various types of small equipment and hand tools
- Performing unskilled or semi-skilled general maintenance
- Performing landscaping maintenance
- Selecting proper maintenance tools and equipment for tasks
- Performing work following established safety policies and procedures and applicable codes and regulations
- Operating walk behind leaf machine for leaf collection
- Will be required to work extended hours on rotating shifts during leaf collection, emergencies, and inclement weather
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and one year of maintenance or customer service experience related to assignment
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing and Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); and frequent exposure to intense noise.
