What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Service Officer position at City of Redding?
The City of Redding is accepting applications for the position of Community Service Officer within the Redding Police Department. We are seeking motivated individuals with a strong commitment toward providing excellent service to the members of the community. The Mission of the Redding Police Department is to work in partnership with the community to protect life and property, solve neighborhood problems, and enhance the quality of life in our City.

- Respond to calls for assistance
- Gather information and compile standard reports of "after the fact" thefts, injury and non-injury traffic collisions, public accident, malicious mischief, lost and found property, runaway juvenile, and missing persons.
- Teach the City's Neighborhood Watch and other specialized crime awareness prevention programs.
- Conduct routine investigative identification work, book evidence and property
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee the activities and participants of law enforcement/correctional and social service community programs.
- Plan, organize and coordinate activities and resources, including participants, facilities, training, equipment, transportation, etc.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of operating procedures of modern police department.
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, and civil and criminal statues of the City, State, and appropriate Federal agencies.
- Knowledge of provisions of the California Vehicle Code applicable to municipal traffic and vehicle control.
- Knowledge of crime prevention hardware/materials and basic security devices.
- Ability to interact effectively with the public and employees.
- Ability to act with resourcefulness and tact, and communicate effectively with all members of the community, particularly in public presentations.
- Ability to prepare concise and accurate reports, understand and carry out oral and written instructions with minimum supervision, and maintain neat and accurate records.
Education, Experience and Special Requirements
- Typical education would include a high school diploma, or equivalent
- Typical experience would include a minimum of one year relevant experience in a job with significant public contact.
- Possession of the appropriate California driver's license, or ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to work shifts, weekends, special events, and holidays required.

Examination Process: A written examination will be administered along with a Chief's interview.
- This recruitment will add to an existing eligibility list that may be used to fill potential and future vacancies that occur during the life of the list for Community Service Officer.
- City of Redding employees: If you took and passed the Community Service examination on or after January of 2021, you are not required to retest and may retain your prior score, OR, if you prefer, you can retest to receive a new score. You will not have the option of retesting and keeping the better of the two scores. Either way, you must complete a new application online and select "Retest" or "Retain" on the supplemental questionnaire.
Selection Process: Final appointment is contingent upon:
- Positive past employment references
- Passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check (applicants 18 and older)
- Passing a pre-employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening test
- Positions within the Police Department require applicants pass an extensive background investigation prior to appointment.
Veteran's Credit: Applicants who attach a copy of the DD-214 to their application indicating "Honorable Discharge" from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score.

Salary : $49,092 - $65,772
