What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Intern (Public Works) position at City of Redding?
The City of Redding Wastewater Division is inviting applications to fill a part-time Technical Intern position. Under immediate supervision, in a trainee capacity, this position will assist with various phases of technical work, assist with special projects or studies, prepare written reports on assigned projects, and perform related work as required.
The ideal candidate should be enrolled in college classes related to biology, chemistry, or other lab sciences. We are looking for someone with a passion and a strong interest in laboratory work. This is an excellent opportunity for a lab enthusiast who enjoys data analysis and working in a technical environment.
- Assists professional technical employees in the performance of their duties or performs these duties under close supervision.
- Makes photocopies and blueprints.
- Receives instructions from staff members and applies knowledge to work situations.
- Learns departmental policies, procedures and methods of operation.
- Assists in collecting and analyzing data, preparing charts and reports.
- Participates in studies and prepares reports under the supervision of professional staff.
- Operates a variety of equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Basic principles and concepts of the academic field related to the department to which the employee is assigned
- Basic mathematical principles; grammar and techniques for the preparation and distribution of information

- Typical education would include being currently enrolled in a program leading to a degree from an accredited college, university, or equivalent.
- Typical experience would include some prior relevant experience
- Possession of the appropriate California driver's license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.
This class is not intended to be used for permanent employment and no full-time permanent appointments will be made in this class.
Final appointment is contingent upon:
- Positive past employment references
- Passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check (applicants 18 and older)
- Passing of a pre-employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening test
