Under general supervision, coordinates a variety of recreation, cultural art, and community program activities; provides oversight of the operation and maintenance of a community center and related programs such as adult and youth sports, special events, facility rentals, and contract classes. Exercises technical and functional supervision over lower level staff.
Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Plans, coordinates, assigns, and supervises work of staff in the areas of recreation;
  • Assists in the recommendation and implementation of goals and objectives;
  • Implements policies and procedures and ensures adherence to polices and procedures;
  • Evaluates operations and activities in assigned area;
  • Assists in the selection and training of staff and works with staff to correct deficiencies, implements discipline procedures as necessary;
  • Provides input into budget preparation and assists with budget administration;
  • Recommends and implements new programs;
  • Prepares program and event publicity, including news releases, flyers, pamphlets, and brochures;
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports;
  • Responds to inquiries from the public and handles difficult questions and situations; and
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Experience:
  • Four years of experience in coordinating recreation and/or community services programs.
  • Some leadership or supervisory experience is desirable.
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • College level coursework in business administration, marketing, communication, public administration, or a related field.  An Associate's degree is desirable.  For degrees completed outside of the U.S. and official equivalency evaluation is required.
Licenses and Certificates:
  • Possession and maintenance of an appropriate valid California driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
  • Possession of CPR and First Aid certificates at time of hire.
Special Requirements:
Essential functions and duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:
  • Ability to work in a standard office environment; ability to travel to different sites and locations;
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.  Required to stand and walk for long periods of time; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms;
  • Regularly required to sit; occasionally required climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; 
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds;
  • Exposure to outdoors, heat and noise;
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays and weekends.

1. Unofficial transcripts showing completion of college level coursework in business administration, marketing, communication, public administration, or a related field.
