The City of Redmond Wastewater Maintenance Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the wastewater (sewer) system, ensuring reliable service to meet the needs of all our customers. Redmond’s wastewater system serves a residential population of over 70,000 people within the City limits and approximately 3,500 residential households in the Novelty Hill area.

About the System:
The Wastewater Division is responsible for:
234 miles of pipe ranging from 8 to 36 inches in diameter
15 miles of easements
7,642manholes
22 sewer lift stations.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Maintenance Technician, some of your work activities will include but are not limited to:
Performing (CCTV) inspection of sewer lines
Conducting High-pressure hydro-cleaning to maintain pipe flow
Maintaining easements and pump station landscaping
Monitoring the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system daily
Repairing lift stations, sewer pipes, and manholes
Performing traffic control and asphalt repairs

Hydro jet to remove sand, rocks, roots, grease, foreign objects and debris from city sewer pipelines, manholes and paved easements
Inspect, operate, repair and maintain wastewater systems; wet well and dry well structures, manholes, generators, vaults, connections, sewer pipelines, chemical feed systems, odor control filter packs, generators, sewer pump station facilities for proper function and integrity
Clean dry and wet wells at sewer lift stations using combo truck
Install, repair and prime pumps at lift stations
Operate gate and check valves at lift stations
Provide accurate field information for update of the GIS system, utility maps, as-builts, and drawings
Operate portable generators; and transfer switches
Assist pump station technician to troubleshoot electrical control systems and repair and maintain all aspects of sewer pump station facilities and buildings
Monitor and interpret SCADA system data; respond to alarms
Locate and repair manholes and lids; install manhole marker posts
Repair manholes, pipe, trenching and shoring
Evaluate infrastructure using PACP coding system
Facility maintenance; including inspecting and repairing heating and ventilation systems in dry wells and lift station buildings
Inspect new constructions wastewater system for compliance with City standards and for bond release
Inspect new wastewater lines and various system infrastructures at construction sites
Hydro excavate to locatepipelines for repair or to locate underground utilities
Participate in the after-hours standby program on a rotational basis, responding to emergency call outs and customer requests
Create, manage, and add detailed information to work orders and inspection records using the City’s computerized maintenance management system (CMMS,) Lucity.
Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to high school diploma or equivalency and one (1) year construction or trades experience.
Licenses and Certificates
Valid Washington State Driver's License and a driving record that meets City standards.
- Additional licenses and certificates that may be required depending on the area in which incumbent is assigned:
- CDL, Class A or B; may need air brakes and/or tanker endorsement;
- Washington State Department of Transportation Flagging Certification;
- First Aid/CPR;
- WWCPA 1 or 2 (desirable)
