DEFINITION

Applicants should be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment. Possession of a Charter Boat Captain's License issued by the United States Coast Guard is highly desirable. Additional licenses and / or certifications are highly desirable. Pay starts at $17.00 / hour and depends on qualifications.

The Instructor position is an at-will, part-time classification that is not eligible for City benefits.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS
JOB DUTIES :
Under general supervision, the Sailing Instructor performs professional duties for the Community Services Department. This position is accountable as a team member to perform part-time professional duties including but not limited to teaching sailing to students in classroom and other settings and to perform other related duties as required.
SCHEDULE :
- Flexible schedule available to Instructors
- Classes take place throughout the week and on the weekends
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should possess :
Knowledge of : Materials, equipment, regulations, principles, procedures; and / or practices necessary to perform required duties; and all applicable safety and health regulations.
The ability to : Meet medical standards for the classification; satisfactorily perform required duties; read, speak, write and understand the English language; learn and adhere to applicable terms and conditions of employment including but not limited to safety and and regulations, City rules and regulations, policies and procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Education and Experience : Applicants should possess any combination of education and / or experience that provides the knowledge and ability necessary to perform required duties.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
CLASSIFICATION :
This is an Unclassified at-will, non-exempt, seasonal part-time position that is not eligible for City benefits.
SELECTION PROCESS :
The selection process may include but is not limited to : application review and evaluation, written examination, performance test and interview. All employment offers made by the City are contingent upon establishing proof of a prospective candidate's legal authorization to work in the United States and successfully passing all components of the pre-employment process, such as : reference check, background investigation, fingerprint criminal history check, post-offer drug test, post-offer psychological and post-offer medical examination, the cost of which will be borne by the City.

Note : All part-time and seasonal employees pay in to Social Security and Medicare (7.65%). City employees do not pay in to California State Disability (SDI).
